Architectural and planning services for an investor project as part of the ongoing and sustainable development of a medical centre operated by Städteregion Aachen at its Bardenberg site in Würselen. A feasibility study for a retirement home with Palliative, Remeo and Hospice wards in association with the existing medical facilities, and the planned expert seminar on care for the elderly published by Städteregion Aachen
Bardenberg – home to a former miner’s hospital – is where the medical centre operated by Städteregion Aachen GmbH is located and includes, among other specialist departments, a leading pulmonary specialist clinic. In the course of important renovation and restructuring work in the medical centre, Städteregion Aachen also announced plans for a specialist seminar in care for the elderly, as part of efforts to establish and shore up this location.
The planned retirement home will act as an important addition to the pulmonary specialist clinic, and will integrate the Palliative, Remeo and Hospice wards. With the specialist seminar on care for the elderly, useful synergies involving facilities and staff can be utilised sensibly. The design is aligned in terms of its structure and form with existing urban structures, and forms a flowing and yet defined spatial border to the pasture areas still used for agriculture. The three-unit comb structure also includes a new, protected parking zone and opens up on the residential side to the surrounding landscape. The linear rear side incorporates treatment, administration and service areas with a clearly defined infrastructure.
